Working With Demanding Parents

Challenging Parents

This INSET examines the strengths and weaknesses of different parental styles and how they affect student responses and learning in the classroom.  It also recommends strategies, highlighting why certain approaches have high or low impact on learning and behaviour.

Every teacher knows from experience the advantages and disadvantages of parenting skills or lack thereof.  The parents' support and expectations can hugely influence learning in the classroom.

Research shows that positive relationships with the parents or guardians significantly enhance student academic and social performances at school. A constructive and targeted involvement with what is home for the students is not only wise but often pays back with tangible results.
